In January 2016, steam coal imports via Karaikal Port stood at 205,596 tons, up 102.18%, from 101,685 tons reported in December 2015, according to provisional data available with ICMW.
Total imports of steam coal through the port during the first 10 months (April-January) of 2015-16 stood at 919,445 tons, against 238,648 tons for the same period of last fiscal, though for seven months there were no data available.

In January 2016, a volume of 5,000 tons came from Australia at a unit price of Rs 3,506 ($51) per ton, 190,596 tons came from Indonesia at a price range of Rs 3,209-Rs 3,343 ($48-$50) per ton and 10,000 tons from South Africa at a unit price of Rs 3,916 ($58).
In December 2015, around 15,000 tons came from Australia at Rs 4,152 ($62) per ton. Further details of the remaining 86,685 tons were not available.
