Japan steel mills signs Q4 coking coal contracts at $119/t

September 29: Japanese steel mills (JSMs) have reportedly signed their fourth quarter (October-December) 2014 coking coal contracts with several miners for premium grade material at $119 per ton, which is fractionally down from the third quarter (July-September) levels of $120 per ton.
ICMW had reported on September 26 that the contract price of hard coking coal between miners and steel mills of Japan for the fourth quarter (Q4) of 2014 were likely to be settled at $118-$119 per ton.
On September 16, ICMW had reported, quoting an official from the Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL), that “Q4 coking coal contracts will be on a downward trend”.
