August 4: Anthracite coal imports through the port of Kolkata surged 74.28% to 33,146 tons in July 2014 against a volume of 8,523 tons in June, according to provisional data available with ICMW.
In July 2013, a volume of 15,314 tons had been imported.
Imports for the first four months of the current fiscal were at 83,023 tons against a volume of 40,314 tons in the same period of the previous fiscal.
Total anthracite coal imports from Kolkata stood at 160,858 tons for the entire financial year of 2013-14.

In July, imports comprised 17,600 tons from Russia at a unit price of Rs 8,164 ($136), 15,000 tons from Ukraine in a band of Rs 6,860 – Rs 6,929 ($13-114) per ton and 546 tons from China in a range of Rs 23,722 – Rs 26,572 ($391-442) per ton.
In June, imports included 7,700 tons from Russia in a price band of Rs 8,026 – Rs 8,161 ($133-135) per ton, 288 tons from China in a range of 24,965 – Rs 26,597 ($417-440) per ton and 536 tons from Ukraine at a unit price of Rs 11,230 ($187).
