December 14: Steam coal import levels through the port of Kolkata increased 25.77% month-on-month to 121,825 tons in November 2015 against 96,862 tons in the preceding month of October, according to provisional data available with ICMW.
In November 2014, imports were at a much higher 146,175 tons.
With the addition of the November figures, total imports of the material in the first eight months of the current fiscal of 2015-16 stood at 1,191,555 tons showing a 201% jump year-on-year over 395,179 tons seen in the same period of the previous fiscal.
Steam coal imports through the port in fiscal 2014-15 were at 1,110,147 tons.

In November, all the consignments arrived from South Africa in a range of Rs 2,998 – Rs 4,761 ($45-72) per ton.
In October, the entire volume arrived from South Africa in a range of Rs 4,147 – Rs 5,590 ($63-86) per ton.
