Major ports’ FY16 cargo handling target up 15%

April 28: The Ministry of Shipping has increased cargo handling targets of major ports by 15% to 695.12 million tons (mt) for the current fiscal (2015-16) from 604.45 mt fixed in the previous fiscal, according to data furnished by Pon Radhakrishnan, Minister of State, Ministry of Shipping.

According to the data, Kandla Port has been given a target to handle 115 mt cargo for the current fiscal, the highest among major ports. Kandla is followed by Paradip Port (78.20 mt), Visakhapatnam Port (77.05 mt), Jawaharlal Nehru Port (74.75 mt) and Mumbai Port (72.45 mt).

Meanwhile, in 2014-15, four major ports achieved the target for cargo handling, said Radhakrishnan.
