January 5: India's imported coal stocks at nine ports – eight major and one private –stood at 7.795 million tons (mt) on January 2, 2015 against a volume of 7.877 mt recorded as on December 26, 2014, according to provisional data available with ICMW.
The overall inventory level of imported coal at Indian ports as on January 2 fell. Except at Mundra Port, coal stocks at various major ports either fell a little or remained at their previous levels.
As on January 2, coal stocks at the port of Paradip declined slightly to 2.812 mt from 2.834 mt recorded on December 26. Of the total coal stocks at the port recorded during the week, steam coal’s share was at 1.731 mt and coking coal’s share at 1.081 mt against a volume of 1.799 mt and 1.035 mt respectively as on December 26.
Imported coal stocks at Mundra Port during the week ended January 2 stood at 1.065 mt, up from 1.020 mt as on December 26. Of the total coal stocks of the port during the week, steam coal stood at 0.950 mt, up from 0.900 mt, recorded in the week before.
Coking coal stocks at the port as on January 2 stood at 0.115 mt against 0.120 mt recorded as on December 26.
Imported coal stocks inventories at Kolkata Port as on January 2 remained at the previous level of 0.607 mt.
At Vizag, imported coal stocks dropped slightly to 1.100 mt as on January 2 from a previous level of 1.200 mt as on December 26. Of the total coal stocks at the port as on January 2 steam coal were at 0.800 mt, same as that on December 26 while coking coal stocks at the port fell slightly to 0.300 mt as on January 2 from 0.400 mt as on December 26.
