Mundra Port’s Oct coal handling up 45% y-o-y

24 Dec 2014

December 24: Coal handling at Mundra Port, the flagship port of Adani Ports and SEZ Limited, increased by almost 45% to 0.217 million tons (mt) during the month of November from 0.150 mt coal handled in the same month a year ago, a senior official from the port told ICMW.

On a month-on-month basis, however, coal handling at the port dropped from 0.303 mt in October 2014, mainly on account of coking coal.

On a cumulative basis, the port’s coal handling for April- November, 2014-15, stood at 0.929 mt against 0.892 mt in the same period of last fiscal.

Of the total coal handled during the month, steam coal handling stood at 0. 217 mt, up from 0.150 mt in the same month last year but down from 0.268 mt handled in October 2014 while no coking coal handling has been reported for November 2014 as well as November 2013, the official said. “Demands of coking coal are low at present as companies have enough inventories,” the official explained.

Steam coal handling during April- November, 2014-15 stood at 0.784 mt, up from 0.592 mt handled in the same period last year while coking coal handling at the port during the period under review fell to 0. 146 mt against 0.300 mt handled the last fiscal, the official said.
