NMPT sees increase in coal handling in FY16

April 21: New Mangalore port (NMPT) expects an increase in coal handling in the current fiscal, a senior port official told ICMW.

“Last year (2014-15) coal handling by the port remained somewhat flat due to lack of demand. But this year (2015-16) we expect that there will be an increase in demand as our main customer Udupi Power Corporation Limited is expected to increase imports,” the official said.

In FY15, coal import through New Mangalore port stood at 8,178,000 tons down from 8,348,000 tons.
