NTPC, Jharkhand pact for Patratu expansion

04 May 2015

May 4: State-owned National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) Limited, on May 4, signed a memorandum of agreement (MoA) with the Jharkhand government in Ranchi for performance improvement and capacity expansion of the Patratu thermal power station (PTPS), said an official statement.

The MoA proposes to take up the Patratu thermal power station (PTPS) through a 74:26 joint venture company, to be promoted by NTPC and Jharkhand Bidyut Vitaran Nigam Ltd (JBVNL), the statement added.

The government of Jharkhand, however, will not invest any additional capital.

With this, the project will be a super-critical one of 4,000 MW in 2 phases, the statement said.

Additionally, the plant load factor (PLF) of the station will improve to 82% from the existing 15% and will be able give 24X7 power supply to domestic and commercial customers in Jharkhand, the statement said.

“This will enable rapid industrialisation which will provide massive employment to the youth of Jharkhand. The JV company will provide employment to all the employees working in this old station, the statement added.
