March 2: Imports of steam coal by National Thermal Power Corporation Ltd (NTPC) during January 2015 stood at 1,679,000 tons, which was about 121% of the month’s target of 1,383,000 tons, as per provisional data of the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) available with ICMW.
However, on a month-on-basis, January imports dipped by 1.17% against December’s figure of 1,699,000 tons.
On the other hand, imports in January 2014 stood at 762,000 tons.
During the first 10 months (April-January) of 2014-15, total coal imports by NTPC stood at 12,409,000 tons whereas the figure stood at 9,072,000 tons during the corresponding period of the previous fiscal.
