No coking coal import via Chennai in March

June 19: There were no coking coal imports through Chennai Port in March, 2014 as per provisional information available with ICMW.
However, in April, coking coal import through the port stood at 199 tons.

In April, all the consignments arrived from the UK in a price band of Rs 29,776 – Rs 30,218 ($489-493) per ton.

In March, all the consignments also arrived from the UK but in a price band of Rs 30,218 – Rs 31,679 ($489-503) per ton.

It may be noted that coal handling at Chennai Port has been suspended since October 2012 following a ban imposed by the Madras High Court on handling of dirty cargo of coal and iron ore at the port with effect from October 1, 2011. The court order came following the hearing of public interest litigation (PIL). However, old stocks are getting cleared.
