India Coal Market Watch

December 3: Northern Coalfields Ltd (NCL) is expected to start operations at four new mines by the next two years (2017-18), according to company sources.

These new mines include three projects in the Moher Basin and one mine in the Main Basin, the sources said.

The new projects in the Moher Basin are Dudhichua Expansion, Jayant Expansion and Bina-Kakri Amalgamation. These mines together have a sanctioned capacity of 25 million tons per annum (mt).

Of these, Jayant Expansion project is scheduled to start operations in 2016-17, but the project is yet to get the necessary approval from the Coal India Ltd (CIL) board. As for the Bina Kakri Amalgamation project, the sources said that the Bina Extension project, which is expected to produce 7.5 mt in the current year, would be merged with the Amalgamation project from 2017-18.

The only new mine to be operational in the Main Basin is Dongrital which would have a capacity of 1.50 mtpa.
