Nov steam coal imports via Kandla up 23% m-o-m

December 23: Steam coal imports through the port of Kandla stood at 1,060,373 tons in November 2014, up 23.24% from 860,407 tons imported in October, according to provisional data available with ICMW.

Imports of steam coal through the port during November 2013 stood at 262,250 tons. 

Imports of steam coal through the port during the first eight months (April-November) of FY’15 stood at 5,684,333 tons while the same stood at 4,672,300 tons during the same period last year.

Following is the monthly break-up of steam coal imports via Kandla Port in 2014-15 and 2014-13:

During November 2014, 50,000 tons came from Australia at a price of Rs 5,450 ($88) per ton, 5,000 tons from Canada at a price of Rs 6,276 ($101) per ton, 619,925 tons from Indonesia at a price range of Rs 2,152-Rs 11,889 ($34-$192) per ton, 357,448 tons came from South Africa at a price range of Rs 4,470-Rs 5,863 ($72-$95) per ton whereas the balance 28,000 tons came from the US at a price range of Rs 6,057-Rs 6,125 ($97-$98) per ton.

However, in October 2014, 92,499 tons came in from Australia at a price range of Rs 4,589-Rs 5,450 ($74-$88) per ton, 30,221 tons came from Canada at a price range of Rs 6,291-Rs 6,316 ($101) per ton, 351,270 tons came in from Indonesia at a price range of Rs 2,111-Rs 4,604 ($34-$74) per ton, 309,540 tons came in from South Africa at a price range of Rs 4,774-Rs 6,084 ($77-$98) per ton whereas the rest of 76,877 tons came from USA at a price range of Rs 6,347-Rs 6,608 ($102-$106) per ton.
