Paradip Port’s Oct cargo handling up 3.50% y-o-y

December 4: Cargo handling by the port of Paradip during November 2014 increased by 3.50% to 5.90 million tons (mt) from 5.70 mt handled in the same month last year (November 2013), a senior official from the port told ICMW.

On a month-on-month basis, however, the port’s cargo handling dropped slightly from 5.92 mt recorded in the month of October.

Coal continued to be one of the major cargos handled at the port in November as well.

On a cumulative basis, the port’s total cargo handling for April-November of the current fiscal stood at 47.3 mt up 6.44% from 44.44 mt in the same period of last year.

Of the total cargo handled at the port, coal handling during November 2014 stood at 3.42 mt up from 2.77 in November 2013 and 2.66 mt from October 2014.

Steam coal handling at the port during the month stood at 2.99 mt, up from 1.85 mt handled in November 2013 and 2.29 mt in October 2014 while coking coal handling at the port during the month stood at 0.43 mt, down from 0.92 mt handled in November 2013 but up from to 0.37 mt in October.

On a cumulative basis, the port’s coal handling the first eight months of the current fiscal increased nearly 14% to 23.92 mt against a volume of 20.99 mt in the same period of 2013-14, the official said.
