Sept steam coal imports via Gangavaram quadruple m-o-m

October 13: Steam coal imports via Gangavaram Port stood at 1,050,285 tons in September 2014, up almost 4 times from 263,414 tons reported in August 2014, as per provisional information available with ICMW.  

During September 2013, steam coal imports via the port stood at 349,762 tons.

During the first six months (April-September) of the current financial year of 2014-15, total steam coal imported through the port stood at 3,747,285 tons while the figure was at 3,292,797 tons during the corresponding period of 2013-14.

Following are the details of imports in 2014-15 and 2013-14 (in tons):

In September 2014, 69,600 tons came in from Australia at a price range of Rs 4,351-Rs 4,458 ($70-$73) per ton, 109,087 tons came from Chile at a price of Rs 3,265 ($53) per ton, 174,799 tons from Indonesia at a price range of Rs 2,510-Rs 4,635 ($41-$76) per ton while the balance 696,798 tons came in from South Africa at a price range of Rs 4,512-Rs 5,854 ($74-$95) per ton.

However, during August 2014, 10,000 tons came in from Australia at a price of Rs 4,432 ($72-$73) per ton, 90,241 tons came from Indonesia at a price range of Rs 4,585-Rs 4,777 ($74-$79) per ton while the balance 163,173 tons came in from South Africa at a price range of Rs 4,790-Rs 5,323 ($77-$86) per ton.
