March 18: Spot prices of South African and Australian steam coals slipped significantly on March 16 in the absence of fresh enquiries amidst ample supplies, market sources said.
South African coal prices had started firming up from the first week of February and touched a high of $67.20 per ton on February 16 largely on speculative activities, but started softening thereafter indicating there is no demand at higher levels, they said.
Almost similar was the case with Australian steam coal.
Indonesia coal prices continued to remain firm, they said.
