Singareni Collieries achieves coal output of 13.6 MT in Q1

01 Jul 2015

Singareni Collieries Company Limited has achieved its production target of 13.65 million tonnes of thermal coal against a production target of 13.5 MT during the first quarter ended June 30.

The company had produced 9.80 MT during same period last year. The target in the first quarter this financial year has been achieved in spite of heavy rains in the past few weeks disrupting production in some of the collieries, according to a statement from the State-owned mining company SCCL.

N. Sridhar, Chairman and Managing Director of SCCL, said this level of production was possible due to hard work of miners and appealed to them to strive to achieve annual target 60 MT and make use of new equipment to hike production.

During June 2015, the mining company produced 4.46 MT as against target of 4.48 MT close to its target in spite of rains disrupting mining operations. In June 2014, it was only 3.71 millions tones.

Coal supplies were higher by 11 per cent during first quarter compared to last year. SCCL supplied 13.92 MT of coal during first quarter as against 12.57 MT during same period last year. During June 2015, it supplied 4.43 MT as against 4.02 MT during June 2014.

The miner managed to remove 72.75 million cubic meters of overburden during the first quarter of this year as against 61.54 million cubic meters during same period of last year.
