Singareni Collieries identifies 3 new mines to expand coal output

11 May 2015

The State-owned mining company Singareni Collieries Company Ltd has decided to take up works on three new mines to step up coal output, while also working towards early synchronisation of both the units of its 1,200-MW coal fired thermal power plant.

During a visit to the coal mines, N Sridhar, Chairman and Managing Director of Singareni Collieries, has called upon the general managers to take up works on Ramagundam Open Cast extension, Bellampally Open Cast 2 and Manuguru underground mines.

Apart from reviewing the progress at the Adriyala Longwall mine, he has set an output target of 25 lakh tonnes during the year. Various issues relating to production increase were also sorted out with the contractors of the mine where SCCL has invested about Rs. 1,200 crore.

At a meeting with various vendors and suppliers and EPC contractors of the 1,200-MW Singareni’s thermal power projects coming up at Jaipur in Adilabad district of Telangana, the CMD suggested that the Unit I and Unit II of 600 MW each would be synchronised by October 15 and November 15, respectively, so that supplies to bridge the power demand-supply gap in Telangana could be met from January 2016.

NTPC, and BHEL, who were among the vendors engaged, for the project have also been requested to ensure that the thermal power plant gets synchronised as per plans so that power supply could commence from early next year and help bridge the demand-supply gap.

The Singareni management has initiated steps to take up another 600 MW thermal power plant at the same site following a decision by the Telangana Chief Minister, K Chandrasehar Rao, to take up further expansion of the project.
