Steam coal imports via Mormugao up 11% in Aug m-o-m

September 30: Steam coal imports through the port of Mormugao rose 11.28% to 278,174 tons in August 2014, against 249,976 tons reported in July, as per provisional information available with ICMW.
In August 2013, the volume of steam coal imports through the port stood at nil.
In the first five (April-August) months of the current financial year (2014-15), steam coal imports through the port stood at 952,096 tons as against nil imports recorded during the same period of 2013-14.
Following is the monthly break-up of steam coal imports via Mormugao in 2013-14 and 2014-15:

In August 2014, 72,604 tons came in from Australia at a price of Rs 8,618 ($139) per ton whereas the balance 205,570 tons came in from South Africa at a price range of Rs 5,141-Rs 5,774 ($83-$93) per ton.
However, during July 2014, 80,204 tons came in from Australia at a price of Rs 7,913 ($130) per ton while the balance 169,772 tons came in from South Africa at a price range of Rs 5,815-Rs 5,683 ($95-$96) per ton.
