TNEB’s February coal imports nearly meet target

March 16: Imports of steam coal by Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) in February 2015 stood at 347,000 tons, which was 93% of the month’s target of 375,000 tons, according to data available with ICMW.

On a month-on-basis, the February 2015 import figure was 27.10% lower than 476,000 tons imported in January 2015 and also lower compared to 526,000 tons imported in February 2014.

The utility’s total coal imports during the first 11 months of 2014-15 stood at 72,59,000 tons, up nearly 42% compared to 51,13,000 tons during the same period of 2013-14.

Of the total imports during the year, 47,000 tons were by its Ennore plant, 2,602,000 tons by Mettur, 1,625,000 tons by the Tuticorin plant and 2,638,000 tons by its north Chennai Plant.
