Ten more coal blocks face uncertain future

February 19: Ten more coal blocks could face the axe at the 26th meeting of the Inter-Ministerial Group, to be held on February 25, 2014.

This panel will review companies with end-use plants which were asked to furnish documents on statutory clearances by February 12, 2014, according to an official release from the Ministry of Coal.

The 10 blocks where Forest Clearance Stage II is pending are as follows:

• Durgapur II/Saraya (Chhattisgarh), allotted to D B Power;
• Mahan (Madhya Pradesh), allotted to Essar Power;
• Moitra (Jharkhand) allotted to HINDALCO;
• Ganeshpur (Jharkhand) allotted to Tata Steel;
• Brinda & Sasai blocks (Jharkhand), allotted to Abhijeet Infrastructure;
• Lohari (Jharkhand), allotted to Usha Martin;
• Dumri (Jharkhand), allotted to Nilachal iron & Power;
• Jitpur (Jharkhand), allotted to Jindal Steel & Power; and
• Rohne (Jharkhand), allotted to JSW Steel.
