Two bids for Krabi power project

07 Aug 2015

Alstom Power Systems and Marubeni and the consortium of Power Construction Corp. of China and Italian-Thai Development have both put forward bid submissions for a proposed construction of a TBH 48 billion (approximately US$1.3 billion) coal-fired power plant in the southern province of Krabi, Thailand.

The Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (Egat) has states the bids were not legally binging until the project obtains the environmental and health impact assessment (EHIA) approval.

The evaluations of the proposals from the two companies are reported to take approximately six months. Once an EHIA and government approvals have been made, Egat will issue a letter of intent.

The plant is planning to start supplying electricity to the national power system by December 2019, according to the Power Development Plan released this year. Due to this short timeframe (four years from now), the agency has brought forward the bidding process pending EHIA approval. If the project is not given the EHIA, the project will be stopped and bids will be dropped.
