November 18: After a brief softening on November 14, spot prices of Australian and South African coal hardened on November 17 amidst reports of withdrawal of the import tax on Australian coking coal by China, market sources said.
“Though withdrawal of the tax is unlikely to cause an increase in steam coal imports, it affected overall sentiment, prompting miners to raise offers,” they said.
