A weak trend continued in international coal markets on January 26 and prices moved in a narrow band with bearish tone on restricted demand, market sources said.
ICMW office remained closed on January 26 and as such the prices of January 25 is not being provided.
Indonesia’s fixation of a record low January 2016 reference prices (HBA) indicated their desperation to sell the material while disruption of supply in South African due to a derailment on main freight line on January 24 had virtually no impact on prices during the day (January 26), they said.
However, participants expect prices to firm up a bit amidst reports that China is planning to severely reduce its steel and coal production in coming days as the decision might prompt Chinese companies to import at least some higher quantities.
