18 Aug 2025
India’s coal production shortfall in terms of percentage recorded in
respect to targets set for the year 2024-25 (FY25) was 6.82 percent and by 14.2
percent till July 2025, said Union Minister for Coal and Mines, G.
Kishan Reddy in a written reply to Rajya Sabha.
“The
figure for the current financial year is provisional, which is expected to
recover on the arrival of final figure. However, there is no shortage of coal
in the country, and there is sufficient coal stock present at thermal plants,”
the minister said.
Major causes of production shortfalls land possession problem and
rehabilitation & resettlement, delay in forestry and environmental
clearances, evacuation & logistics constraints, law & order and excess
pre-monsoon rains during current financial year.
