30 Aug 2025
Ministry
of Power and Director General, Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) have released
the State Energy Efficiency Index (SEEI) 2024 in association with the
Alliance for an Energy Efficient Economy (AEEE), Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh,
Assam and Tripura among top performers, according to an official release.
The SEEI 2024 assesses the energy efficiency performance of 36
Indian states and Union Territories (UTs) during 2023-24.
The sixth edition of the Index features an enhanced
implementation-focused framework with 66 indicators across seven
key demand sectors, buildings, industry, municipal services, transport,
agriculture, electricity distribution companies (discoms),
and cross-sector initiatives.
States are categorised as front runners (>60
percent of the total evaluation score), achievers (50-60 percent), contenders (30-50
percent), and aspirants (<30 percent), with further grouping based
on their total final energy consumption (TFEC).
The top-performing states in each group are Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Assam and Tripura.
Compared to SEEI 2023, the number of front runner states
has reduced from seven to five, with Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka,
Maharashtra, Telangana, and Tamil Nadu maintaining this status. Two states
– Assam and Kerala – feature in the achiever category,
while Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, Odisha, and Uttar Pradesh are
classified as contenders.
