MoC proposes to operationalize 20 new mines in FY26

June 12: Ministry of Coal (MoC) has proposed to operationalize more than 20 new mines with an aggregate of over 80 million tons per annum (mtpa) during 2025-26 (FY26), which includes coal PSUs, commercial and captive mines, according to a BSE filing. The coal ministry has envisioned on-demand coal supply capacity to consumers by FY47, accordingly the ministry has set a target of opening 100 new mines to create an addition of coal production capacity of 500 mtpa by FY30. Earlier, during FY25, 13 new mines operationalized with a capacity of 83 million tons (mt).
