Aligned
with RE100 target and decarbonization goals, Shree Cement has commissioned a 6.0 megawatts peak (MWp) solar
power plant at its Roorkee unit in Uttarakhand, which is strategically located
next to its existing cement operations, according to an official release.
With this latest addition, solar capacity at the Roorkee
facility has grown sevenfold from 1 MWp to 7.0 MWp. Shree Cement’s total solar
footprint now stands at 293.5 MWp.
The commissioning of the Roorkee solar plant is a
testament to our commitment to reducing carbon emissions and building long-term
energy resilience. Projects like this not only benefit the environment but also
create local jobs and contribute to inclusive economic growth,” said Neeraj Akhoury, Managing Director, Shree Cement.
Developed with a capital investment of approximately Rs
16 crore, the solar power plant is expected to significantly reduce reliance on
grid power and offset around 6,500 tons of CO₂ emissions annually,
contributing meaningfully to climate action.
